Today Emma is 3 years old! We can hardly believe our little baby girl is 3, but she is! She has had a wonderful birthday this year. We did a little Toy Story party on Dec. 18 with some of her friends and she really enjoyed it. Today we are at Grandpa and Grandma Smith's house and they had a little party for her with cake and ice cream.
She is a very funny girl, she loves to make silly faces and tell silly jokes. I love to watch her play and listen to her talk to her toys. She is so sweet and loving but also very smart.
She absolutely loves her baby brother and asks me every day if he is big enough to play with her. She is so affectionate, she loves to hold him and kiss him. When Nathan is on the floor she will lay down with him and talk to him.
When we return from our Christmas trip I am going to stop using diapers on Emma. She is ready to use the potty, she can and has worn panties all day and not had any accidents, but she still continues to choose diapers. So when we get back home, I'm putting up the diapers (except for night time) and we'll see how fast we can get her completely potty trained.
Emma still pronounces a few words incorrectly. She says "gurl" for "girl" and "hurs" for "horse". It's very cute and I know soon enough she'll drop all of these cute little inaccurate pronouncements.

Nathan is 3 months old!
Today Nathan is 3 months old! He weighs 15 pounds and two days ago he rolled over from his tummy to his back for the first time! The whole family was there to witness this first of Nathan's. He is really smiling and cooing a lot now. He holds his head up so well and enjoys looking at toys and watching Emma play. He has also found his hands and loves to suck on them. He sleeps pretty well at night, waking up to eat 2-3 times a night. He is growing so fast and he is such a happy baby. We love him so much and he is just precious to us!

Nate Update
Today I took Nathan to the doctor to receive an immunization shot. They were out of this shot at his two month appointment so we had to go back. Well the little guy is not so little, weighing in at 15 pounds, 2 ounces! It's no wonder that my shoulder and back are hurting so much these days from carrying him.
He is really smiling now and starting to stay awake for longer periods. I am afraid that he may have some reflux issues because he does crying after feedings sometimes and spits up quite a bit. We will go back to the doctor in late January for his 4 month checkup.

Nathan's Two Month Checkup
Today was Nathan's two month checkup. His weight is 13 pounds, 14 ounces, in the 80th percentile. His height is 22 inches, in the 10th percentile and head circumference is 39.5 cm, in the 10th percentile.
The doctor said that he looks good, he's very healthy and doing great. She said that he will probably catchup in the height and head circumference areas and not to worry about that, all babies grow differently.
He did receive several immunizations, one oral and two shots. He cried but recovered quickly, and just slept more through the day. He still has very dry skin so we are going to watch that closely and continue to use a very moisturizing cream on his skin.

Emma is 35 months old!
Today Emma is 35 months old! I missed updating last month, sorry about that. Emma is very excited for her upcoming birthday and Christmas. Today we were able to visit Santa at the mall and she was very excited to tell him that she wants Toy Story 3 and a big Belle doll.
Emma has started a bad habit of picking at her cuticles and her poor fingers are looking very ragged. I believe this started about 2 months ago, when a certain little person arrived on the scene. I really don't know how to get her to stop picking at her fingers. I hope she will grow out of it soon.
We are still working with Emma on potty training. I'm hopeful that she will decide she is done with diapers soon, or I may just say "no more diapers" when she turns three.
We are also working on rules, and no one really likes rules! But we have a few, including no toys in the bathroom or on the stairs, picking up toys before getting out more and only kissing baby Nathan on the forehead.
Emma has some quirky saying that I find amusing. She no longer asks "why", but instead she will say "why not". She really means why but for some reason she says "why not". For example, I'll tell her we need to get our shoes on to play outside and she will say "why not?" instead of "why?" She also says "me either" or "me neither" when she means "me too".

Nathan is 2 months old!
Today Nathan is 2 months old! He's really growing fast. He is out of most of his 3 month size clothing and wearing 6 month sized now. He's also in size 3 diapers! Although we still mostly use cloth, sometimes I don't have enough between washes so I need the disposables. He was wearing size 2 for about two weeks and then had another growth spurt. According to our home scale, he weighs 13 pounds, 2 ounces! We will go to the doctor for his two month checkup next week, and I bet he will be pushing 14 pounds.
He's really starting to smile now, and it's such a sweet smile! Today he gave me the biggest smile. He laughed once a few days ago but only Daddy was around to hear it. Emma still loves him so much, I really have to watch to make sure that she is not squeezing him too much. Every day she asks me "Is he big yet" because she is wanting to play with him so much!
Some of my nicknames for Nathan are Nate, Snugglepotamus, Babynater, and Naterkins. He's finally starting to stay awake for longer periods of time. His sleeping at night is also getting better. He will usually have a long stretch for about 4-5 hrs, then another stretch for 3 hours. He is sleeping in our bed for the time being since he refuses to sleep in the bassinet. He is still much easier than Emma was at this stage, but he does have a fussy period from about 8pm-11pm every night. He wants me to hold him and walk with him. If I sit down, he screams. It's hard since I'm just about to drop at that point but he finally stops crying and goes to sleep.

Nathan is one month old today!
Today Nathan is one month old! He weights 10 pounds and is such a good and sweet baby. He still sleeps most of the time. But when he is awake, he's holding his head up and trying to look around at everything. Emma loves him and enjoys holding him, and hugging and kissing him.

Nathan is three weeks old!
Today Nathan is 3 weeks old! He is still sleeping most of the time. He is having more periods of awake time though. He's holding his head up very well too. His only issue seems to be painful gas, it really hurts his little tummy.

Nathan is two weeks old!
Today Nathan is two weeks old! We took him to the doctor for his two week checkup. He's already gained a pound over his birth weight, so he's 7 pounds 14 ounces! He's 21 inches long, so that puts him in the 25th percentile for weight and 75th percentile for height.
I suppose being the second child that everything he does will be compared to Emma, but I guess that is just the way it is. He's eating and sleeping very well already, much better than Emma did. He also rarely fusses or cries. The thing that bothers him the most is gas pains. But even then he doesn't cry or scream the way Emma did, he just moans and cries a little bit. He also rarly spits up when compared to Emma. She would spit up after every feeding, but Nathan will only spit up about once a day, if that. He still sleeps most of the time. He will have a couple of periods of awake time a day, usually 10-20 minutes. Overnight he can sleep for up to 3 hrs but mostly he wakes up every 2 hrs.
His eyes are still very dark blue, and his hair seems to be getting even lighter. He loves to be held up over your shoulder, that is his favorite place. He will sit in the swing and sleep, unless he's having gas pains, then he wants to be held and patted on his back.
The newborn stage can be hard with very little sleep but I love how small and cuddly he is. I know he's growing fast so I'm trying to enjoy every day.
I've also been working on the whole story of his birth, it's almost done! I should have it posted sometime this week.

Emma is 33 months old!
Emma is 33 months old, 2 years and 9 months!
She can definitively do the Hook 'Em horns sign now and she's learned the Texas - Fight yell too! She has become quite attached to a small stuffed Bevo that we've had since she was a baby. She even takes him to school with her!
She is really enjoying her preschool and hasn't been unhappy or upset once when I drop her off. It is hard to get information out of her about what she does, and sometimes it's hard to talk to her teacher with all the other parents around. But her teacher, Ms. Jennifer, has told me that Emma gets very concerned for the other kids if they are upset. She will try to console them and comfort them.
We took Emma to her first baseball game earlier in the month. She had a great time and ever since then has been talking about the trampoline. They had a huge trampoline there for much bigger kids to jump on, while tethered to giant rubber band type cords. She really wanted to have a turn on that and we've been trying to explain to her that she's not big enough for that yet. So then she reminds us that she is a big girl, and sleeps in her big girl bed. Every few days or so she asks to go to the trampoline. Sometimes she calls it a bounce-oline.
Emma is now a big sister and doing pretty well. She even told me today that Santa might bring her another baby brother for Christmas! I told her I was pretty sure that she only gets one baby brother this year.

Baby Boy Week 39 Update
Today I'm at 39 weeks. I had my weekly OB appointment and everything is fine. I'm a good 4 cm dilated and 90% effaced. He still has not dropped any lower. I am very ready to have this baby but also trying to get a few more things done before he arrives. We did schedule an induction for next Friday, October 1. I'm hoping it won't come to that and that he will arrive on his own, preferably this weekend!

Baby Boy Week 38 Update
Today was another OB appointment. Everything went well, the baby is measuring on track and my doctor estimated that he is about 7 pounds. His heart rate was in the 140's, nice and normal. I'm dilated to about 3-4 cm and 80% effaced. But we are still looking at about 2 weeks to go. Surprisingly I did not gain any weight since last week. Not sure how that happened as I feel heavier everyday.
I'm continuing to organize, clean and prepare the house for the baby's arrival. Everyday Emma tells us "Baby brother is almost here," or "Baby brother's coming soon." I think she is ready and getting a little tired of waiting. Me too, Emma, me too!

Baby Boy Week 37 Update
Today I went to the doctor for my weekly checkup. Technically I'm 36 weeks and 5 days, but we are rounding up! He is still head down, at station -3, which just means his head is down but he has not dropped into my pelvis yet. His heart rate is still in the 140's, so that's good. I'm already 75% effaced and dilated 2-3 cm. But this doesn't mean I'm about to go into labor. I remember with Emma I was dilated to 5cm for almost 3 weeks and she was 3 days past due. So we are still looking at about 3 weeks. I gained another almost 7 pounds in the last 2 weeks! So that puts me at 45 pounds gained and I can tell! My belly is so heavy, it just aches.
We are just about ready for him to arrive around here. We have the car seat in the car, Tony is packed and I'm about 95% packed. We still need to figure out what will happen with Emma when I go into labor. Of course that will depend on when that happens, but we need to write up some plans so we are prepared. We still need to hang things in his room, but we have the bassinet set up in our room so he'll be in with us for a while.
