Nathan's 6 month well check

Today was Nathan's 6 month well check. He is doing great, perfectly healthy and happy! He weighs 19 pounds, 9 ounces (I predicted 19 1/2 pounds so I was off by an ounce) which is the 90th percentile still. His head circumference is 44 cm, in the 50th percentile. He grew in height and is now 26 inches long, in the 25th percentile!

The dr. said his lower gums are red and swollen so maybe he'll be cutting some teeth soon! He did receive a flu vaccination, and two other vaccines for various other diseases. He only cried a few minutes with the shots.

After talking with the dr. about Nathan's reflux, we have decided to finish out the current bottle of Prilosec and then see how he does without the medication. If he starts experiencing pain again with his reflux we can always start the medication again, but it would be wonderful if he has outgrown the need.

It's also time to start some solid foods for Nathan. I'm pretty reluctant about starting solids for a few reasons:

1. I'm lazy. Solid food is a bit more work than just lifting up my shirt to feed him!
2. It's messy and I don't need more dishes or clothes or kids to clean (see #1).
3. It's not like the boy needs more food, I can barely carry him!

But anyway, we'll try to get some solids going soon. He's really starting to move around on the floor a lot, not really crawling with purpose but rolling, pushing and pulling himself along. He's wearing mostly 9 and 12 month sized clothing now.

Nathan is 6 months old!

Today Nathan is 6 months old! He's such a happy, good baby. He's rolling over, sitting up for a few seconds without support, sitting up much longer with support, grabbing at toys, and pushing himself along the floor with his feet. He loves to grab his feet and roll from side to side on his back. He has also found his tongue and loves to stick it out and suck on it. He's always smiling and he's really finding his voice now. He loves to talk and scream at us, in the happiest of ways. He also has discovered that he can move his arms up and down pretty fast and he's enjoying smacking them against the floor, himself, and mostly me as I carry him.

He's napping about 3-4 times a day. Usually he will have one good nap from 1-2 hours and the rest are 30-45 minute cat naps. Overnight he is still a great sleeper, usually going to sleep about 8 and not waking until 4 or 5am to nurse. Then he's back to sleep until about 7.

He is still taking medication for reflux and he still spits up quite a bit. I'm still cutting out diary and soy and I think it has really helped him, because he has stopped the almost constant groaning noises he used to make and his tummy doesn't seem to be hurting him anymore.

Nathan really, really loves Emma. He watches her all the time, and she can't wait to play with him. Every time we get in the car to go somewhere, she will put her little stuffed Bevo in his lap and say "Nathan can have my Bevo, so he won't be lonely". She is so sweet with him and loves him so much.

We've got two great kids and we are so thankful!
