Emma is 18 months old!

UPDATE:

This morning we took Emma in for her 18 month wellness visit. She received one vaccination and is done with those until she's 4 years old! She weights 26.6 pounds and is 34 inches tall! She's in the 97% percentile for height and head circumference, and 75% percentile for weight. Also I forgot to say below that Emma knows two numbers, eight and nine, and loves to count using just these two.

ORIGINAL POST:

She’s growing, learning and changing so fast! New words and almost words are coming every day! There are so many things I want to write, so I’m just going to list everything that comes to mind about what Emma is now doing or saying.

She is mostly sleeping through the night, from about 7:30pm to 7:00am. She naps from about 1-3:30 or 4pm every day. The 3 hour naps are so nice!

Emma can sign for food when she’s hungry.

Emma can answer a Yes or No question pretty well, mostly if the answer is ‘No’. She’s not quite saying ‘Yes’ yet. Mostly the questions are if she’s hungry or if she wants to outside or upstairs to play.

She loves her baby doll and carries it and loves it a lot.

She’s starting to like to drink juice, mostly apple and white grape juice. She still doesn’t like cow’s milk.

She is still learning to use a spoon but getting better at it.

She loves the pool and playing the tub too.

She can point to her nose, eyes, ears, hair, head, feet, toes, knees, and lips.

She understands ‘hot’ and will blow on her food when it’s too hot.

She can say ‘hot’, ‘hat’, ‘mine’, what is it’, and ‘where did it go’. She can say ‘Elmo’, ‘Ernie’, ‘Zoe” and ‘Big Bird’. She is talking so much but we can’t understand all of it yet.

She will still eat the cat food if I don’t pick it up off the floor.

She loves lotion and I’ve taught her to put it on her hands, and rub her hands together.

She hates to have her diaper changed and I’m now getting good at changing it when she is standing up (pee diapers only!)

She can sing part of the song “Old MacDonald” that goes “E-I-E-I-O”, except she says “I-E-I-E-O” or sometimes just “I-I-I-I-O”.

She’s so friendly and sweet, and will give hugs and kisses to just about anyone. I ask for kisses about 20 times a day and she almost always will give me one.

18 Months!

Such a pretty girl!

Our Vacation to Galveston Island, June 2009

We had a great time in Galveston last week! Every year Tony's company attends a conference in Galveston and we decided to extend the trip a couple of days and make a family vacation out of it. We arrived on Thursday afternoon at the Moody Gardens Hotel. While Tony attended a reception for clients, Emma and I got settled into the room. She was soon bored so we dressed up and made an appearance. But she was pretty tired since she didn't nap that day at all, so it was a short one.

On Friday Tony had to fly to Dallas for another work event, so it was just Emma and I for the day. We enjoyed a nice breakfast in the hotel and then hit the pool! We swam for about an hour and then went for a drive around the island. Emma's allergies had started up once we arrived on Thursday, so I needed to find a drugstore and get her some Benadryl. After lunch we both took a nap and then went over to the Aquarium at Moody Gardens. Emma was not too interested in the fish. She did however really enjoy the A/C grates on the floor, and climbing up any and all steps she could find. After she lost interest in that we went back to the hotel room. Once Tony arrived we went to eat dinner at The Spot, a famous burger joint on the island. It was really good!

On Saturday morning we got up and went to Schlitterbaun Waterpark for a couple of hours. Emma had the best time! We met Tony's boss and his family there and they were so nice to take Emma for about 30 minutes so Tony and I could ride the River Rapids! Emma loved the slide, and I took her up and slid down with her about 25 times. She just loved all of it! We even took her around the park in the Lazy River. She wore a life jacket and Tony carried her. We got back to our room about 1pm and Emma went to sleep almost immediately. We didn't even eat lunch that day, she was so tired and slept for almost 4 hours! Saturday evening we enjoyed a great dinner with the Harkins' at Fisherman's Warf. Emma was a hoot and entertained all the surrounding tables with her ketchup face painting act. It was quite gross!

Emma woke us up early every day, and Father's Day Sunday was no exception! We were able to get packed up and check out about 9am. We picked up donuts from Home Cut Donuts and headed to Stewart Beach. We wanted to spend a little time there before driving back home. Emma really loved the beach. First she was very interested in the sand, and once she discovered the shoreline and ocean, she was so excited! Tony took her out into the surf for a while, and she loved that too. She found a few shells but was not too interested in them. She dug in the sand for almost an hour, and would intermittently get up and run back to the water. It was an all around great vacation and I hope next year we can do it again!

Hat!

We are back from a great vacation to Galveston Island! I hope to post more about that along with pictures soon. But first I wanted to say Happy Father's Day to Tony! Emma loves you so much and I'm thankful to have you too!

Today Emma said a new word, 'hat'! She said it several times when we were at the beach, I suppose because we were both telling her she needed to wear her hat. The words are coming faster each day, and she had been saying "Where'd it go", and "Bye-bye banana" the last week too.

Emma in a shark cage

Took Emma to the aquarium this afternoon. Her favorite things were the
steps, the A/C vents on the floor, and this shark cage.

Something new every day!

Today Emma did/said/ate a few new things. First at lunch, we ate couscous with garbanzo beans and dried cranberries. I made it with half orange juice and half water. I sat the plate in front of Emma and she immediately turned it upside down and dumped it on the table. I can't say that she didn't like it since she had yet to eat one bite of it! She wasn't interested in eating anything at that time so I took her out of her chair. After a few minutes she realized I was eating and came begging for a few bites. She spit out the couscous but did eat a few of the beans. I guess the couscous is an acquired taste.

Later we were reading books and she pointed to Elmo in one of her Sesame Street books and said "Em-Mo" which I guess is her word for Elmo. She also said something when pointing to Big Bird but it was less recognizable so we're still working on that one.

Tonight I took her up for her bath and as I was running the water, she was able to get in the tub by herself! She just swung that leg over and jumped in before I had her diaper off!

Lastly, as we were nursing and rocking at bedtime, she started fussing and wanted down. I sat her on the ground and she ran to her crib, and grabbed her blanket out. She then climbed back into my lap and said "b-ket" for blanket!

Ssssss!

Tonight Emma said a new sound, the "s" sound. We were watching Sesame Street and "S" was the letter of the day. They said it a few times and then Emma turned to Tony and said "ssssssssss" several times! She enjoys saying it and has been repeating it a lot tonight! She's sssssssssso sssssssssssmart!

No and Neigh!

Today Emma told me “no!” at least three times! I guess she is getting into that stage of testing her boundaries. She also hit me a few times today. She seemed very frustrated and she didn’t use her signs even when I asked her too. I had to put her in “time out” a few times because of the hitting.

She also said “neigh” for the first time. She saw a horse on TV and said “neigh” to me. That’s one of the harder animal sounds for her and I’m proud that she can now neigh like a horse. For anyone keep track (me), she can quack, moo, baa, meow, ruff, and neigh. I hope oink is next!

I forgot to mention in my last post that Emma now uses the sign for baby, holding her arms and making a rocking motion as if she was holding a baby. She’s also very attached to her blanket that’s she had since she was very little. It’s a little pink Winnie the Pooh snuggle blanket and she loves it now. She wants to carry it everywhere in the house, but so far she hasn’t tried to take it out with us. Luckily I have an extra one in case one gets lost.
