7 months old today!

Emma is 7 months old!

Today Emma is 7 months old! She’s really growing so fast! Just a few days ago she finally figured out how to roll from her back onto her stomach (she’s been rolling from stomach to back for a couple of months). It was like a light switched on, and now she is rolling both ways and all around the room! Crawling is not far off. She will push up on her hands, stretch out for toys, and wiggle herself across the carpet.

Saturday she wasn’t feeling well. She threw up a few times, not sure what caused it. But it was really sad to see her feeling so bad. Whatever she had left quickly, by Sunday she was herself again.

We have moved up her into the big girl car seat, since she is really too big for the infant carrier now. This new car seat has to be rear facing until she is one year old, but then we can turn it around. We haven’t taken a ride in the new seat yet, but we sat her in it and she seemed to approve of it, it’s much more comfortable and soft!

She’s now wearing mostly 12 month sized clothes. She can still wear some of her 9 month clothes and she’s in a few 18 month sized shorts. I found an adorable swim suit for her at a garage sale for a quarter, it’s 18 month but not too big for her, and it’s a one piece. I went to Target to get her a few new sleep outfits. I like the ones with the footies that snap from the top to the bottom on the front. Well, they don’t carry those for size 12 months, only 9 months and younger. She’s still fitting in her 9 month ones but it’s getting tight, so I needed to get the next size up. I was disappointed they don’t carry them for 12 months. Instead, they have the little girl pajamas for 12 month and up. They are little 2 piece sets with shorts and a top. They were very cute but I’m not ready for Emma to wear little girl pj’s, I like the baby footed pj’s!

Emma is really starting to like eating solid food too. She’s getting better with opening her mouth for the spoon, and she’s eating more each time too. I still think sweet potatoes are her favorite. We have not tried any fruit yet, I really want her to like her veggies first. She doesn’t really care for the oatmeal cereal though. I may have to try another kind, maybe barley cereal.

Baby Gates

Ronda has completely overwhelmed me with how often she has been posting on this site. Ducks and water and all that. I guess in this new millenium fathers gravitate towards video cameras, mothers to blogging every second of their infants' pre-mobile lives. I imagine as soon as Emma becomes mobile, which is any second now, mom's posts will be more akin to:

"Emma dragging cat into toilet. Cn't typ."

As Ronda noted earlier, I installed gates last week to try to hem in our little prisoner. I've proposed a series of jigsawed fences surrounding the entertainment center, Codename: Guantanamo. We'll see if that flies with the Secretary of Defense. There are a lot of obstacles to overcome here.

First, we've got the Secretary herself... if she can't easily use the gates then all must suffer her wrath twice (once at the bottom of the stairs, once at the top... all you parents know this tune, so sing along! ) every time she goes up the stairs. So the gates must be perfect and easy to use in every way, which goes against the very nature of baby gates.

Secondly, the cats: Chloe the Gorgotha and Lillipoots. Two distinctive problems. One a hog of a cat that craps like a grown man who can barely squeeze through the open stairway and waddle down the stairway sans any gates at all; the other a three legged cripple-cat who has determined her every ill is somehow my fault and will walk up and bite me in the leg at any given moment. So now how do we get these gates to where both of these feline demons my wife has invited to live in my house can traverse the stairs so they can get to their litter box downstairs? I say they're no longer allowed upstairs, but this is apparently up for debate.

Lastly, installing baby gates is a task given to particularly horrible people in hell...and tired fathers. I'm certain there's a dead sea scroll somewhere...lying undiscovered, waiting to be found... that describes how God's Second Punishment to Lucifer Morningstar himself after falling from Heaven was having to install an infinite amount of baby gates on the path from Heaven to Hell, so that the lost and damned might never sneak out of hell via some stairway. Know this, evildoers, and repent! There's still time to see the light before you end up installing baby gates for the rest of eternity. Using those little templates, but finding they're not quite lined up with Hell's infinite stock of Evenflo Superfit Baby Gates' mounting brackets. Oh, hey! Hell has baseboard, handrails, and walls that aren't plum!

Repent!

Gates, a shot, and more!

What a weekend! Tony was crazy busy doing so many things around the house! Saturday we went to Babies R Us to buy gates for the stairs, and he spent hours on Sunday installing them. First he did the bottom, which wasn't too bad, but when he tried the top we realized that it was too tall and due the hand rail we couldn't use it. So back to B-R-U to get a different gate.

I didn't mind the trip, I can always have fun in that store. We also looked at new and bigger car seats for Emma, since she barely still fits in her infant seat. While comparing car seats, we met another couple looking at the car seats for their daughter. She is only 4 months old and weighs 21 pounds! It made me feel better to see another baby as big as Emma, and even younger in age!

So we bought our gate and came back home, and Tony installed it. I really don't like the gates, I don't know what the poor cats are going to do. I'm worried they will get trapped upstairs and not be able to get to the litter box. For now we can leave them open since Emma's not mobile yet, but once she is crawling, they will have to be shut. Probably in another month or so, Emma's getting close to crawling.

Yesterday I had to take Emma back to her doctor for a vaccination. They were out of the Hep. B vaccine when we took her at 6 months, a couple of weeks ago. So we went back to get this one shot. Emma did so good! I held her on my hip, and she was looking behind me, so she didn't even see the nurse. She got the shot and started to cry, and only cried for about 3 seconds and then just stopped! She gave me a look, like she was checking for my reaction, so I just smiled at her and then she was ok! What a brave little girl! Each time she has gotten shots her reaction has been better and this was the best yet!

Well this has been a bit of a boring post, but really the only other thing I can blog about is Emma's changing poop, since we introduced solid foods. If anyone wants to hear more about it, please leave a comment and then I'll write up a nice long blog about it. I can go on about poop for pages!

A song for Emma and her Daddy!

We enjoyed visiting Daddy at work today for lunch. On the way home Emma was fussy and tired, and when she is fussy in the car I usually sing to her. Well I was tired of the usual songs that I sing, and she's probably sick of them as well, so I made one up, on the spot! We dedicate this song to Daddy!

I like ice cream

so smooth and neat

I like apples

so crunchy and sweet

but what I like

the most of all

is meat, meat, meat!!
