Emma is 19 months old!

Today Emma is 19 months old. Wow! She’s a very busy little girl, so I need to type fast so I can get back to her. Well as you can tell from the most recent pictures, she has a new baby doll and she really loves her. She loves to put her babies and animals to bed, pat them, feed them bottles, and rock them. She’s still learning new words every day. She can now say “bike”, “book”, “juice”, “ham”, and “apple”. There are more words that we can’t quite understand yet. She’s been saying something that sounds like “akum” but we just have no idea what that means. She’s also still using her sign language, and she’s got a new sign that we don’t know what it is. She makes a fist and rubs it on her cheek. She’s used this sign for a few months now but she uses it infrequently so we haven’t been able to decipher it.

She still loves music and loves to dance. Just last week she started singing to her baby doll. It was July 19th and we were staying the night with my parents. She started singing while patting her baby. It was so sweet! We realized that she was singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, which is one of the songs I sign to her at bedtime. Since then she sings it quite often. The words aren’t understandable but the tune is clearly Twinkle Twinkle.

She has really been enjoying her pool this summer. Unfortunately it has a slow leak so I have to air it up each time she wants to swim. But it’s worth it to see how much fun she has! She also loves to brush her teeth, and telling her it’s time to brush teeth is about the only way to get her out of the bathtub without a lot of fussing. She has a yellow toothbrush with Elmo on the handle. While she jams that into her mouth, I attempt to brush her teeth with another brush. She takes gummy vitamins now, and she really loves those. I have to hide the bottle so she doesn’t know where it is. I sneak one out of the bottle while she’s in the bathtub and give it to her. She always signs for more but she only gets one a day!

One of Emma’s favorite things to do is make a mess and then exclaim “Uh-Oh” or “Oh no”. She loves to dump out a box of toys, then say “Oh-no” as if it was knocked over by mistake. She will also turn her cup over and shake out little drops of water until she has a nice big puddle, then she starts screaming “Uh-Oh” until I come running to see what the problem is. Then she laughs really big because she knows she is being silly.

Emma has also become very interested in boo-boos. If she thinks that you have a boo-boo, she will kiss it and pat it. I had some lint on my shirt one day and she went into full mommy mode, trying to console me and pat me, all the while pointing to it and exclaiming “boo-boo”!

She also just this week started to give kisses that are more than just a press against the cheek. She is puckering up and making a smacking sound when she delivers the kiss! These kisses are pretty special and she’s not giving them out as freely as the other kind.

Emma is just a very happy, healthy, and energetic little girl, and we are so lucky to have her! We love her so much!
